IAP2 2013 Presenter Check-In: Kim Kolenc
As we count down the days to #IAP2NA2013, we thought it would be nice to check in with our speakers and presenters to see what they’re looking forward to at the conference. Enjoy!
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Kim Kolenc and I’m coming to you from my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta Canada. My immediate family includes my husband and daughter but I have a much larger family of friends and community that makes this place not only where I live but the place I call home. I am fortunate enough to be one of those people who when ask “What do you do” I can respond…..what I love to do! Design and host conversations and dialogues that really matter to people, in a way that’s meaningful, insightful and leaves people knowing more about themselves and others. Engagement is a beautiful combination of theory and art and the best part is watching the people bring it to life.
What topic will you be presenting on at the conference, and what makes you feel passionate about it?
I’m going to refer to the response given earlier by Stephani as she encapsulated most of what I can offer. For myself I would add that I’m passionate about the work we do because I’ve seen it truly make a difference and leave a positive mark on what’s often a messy situation (to put it lightly). I’m a big believer in setting ourselves up for success and I see that same philosophy applying to all the difficult, complex problems that face our society today. That means a different way of coming together, being innovative, creative and flexible, asking more of people and NOT having all the answers.
Based on the conference program, what other sessions do you hope to attend (and why)?
There are so many I hope to attend and so many people I Iook forward to connecting with. I’m excited about the field trip opportunities as well as the session about arts and community engagement. As a long time dancer and lover of the arts I look forward to hearing about new ways to bring both my passions together!
How can we follow you?
