IAP2 2013 Presenter Check-In: Kevin Miniter and Michael Toomim
As we count down the days to #IAP2NA2013, we thought it would be nice to check in with our speakers and presenters to see what they’re looking forward to at the conference. Enjoy!
Who are you and what do you do?
Hello! We’re Kevin Miniter and Michael Toomim. We’re two of the three cofounders of ConsiderIt (www.Consider.It).
What topic will you be presenting on at the conference, and what makes you feel passionate about it?
We will be presenting our software, ConsiderIt, along with the PhD research concerning its first deployment, the Living Voters Guide, and interactive guide powered by the voice of voters in Washington State. For the past three years, ten of thousands have come to the site to listen to their neighbors deliberate about their contentious ballot issues.
Based on the conference program, what other sessions do you hope to attend (and why)?
Detroit Works Project – Detroit is at a crossroads and it will be interesting to hear what steps are being taken to engage citizens as Detroit embarks on a new future.
Defending Civil Society – Assessing Space for Citizen Participation for Governance in Mongolia – We are fascinated how many post Soviet democracies have been able to leapfrog into the digital world and some have surpassed the US in terms of e-democracy (Estonia, I’m looking at you.) We’re interested to hear how Mongolia has been able to engage citizens after the fall of the Soviet Union and especially what steps are being taken to bridge the divide in the least densely population country in the world.
How can we follow you?
