Online Member Directory: Announcing Changes to Privacy Settings

Since we rolled out our new website earlier this year, we have noticed that too few members are taking advantage of the online member directory.  Only 14 are currently listed in the public directory, while 54 share their profile with fellow IAP2 USA members in the member-only directory.

This is mostly due to the fact that we accidentally applied very restrictive default privacy settings during the initial data migration.

Over the coming three weeks, we will make the following adjustments:

  1. For all imported member records, we will retroactively check the “Allow to show profile” box. This will make sure that these member profiles show up in the member-only directory. This setting is already the default for new profiles.
  2. For all member records, we will make basic profile information (first name, last name, organization) available to be shown in the public directory. The default settings for new profiles will be adjusted accordingly.

Members will receive a notification once this change has been scheduled. We will send another notification once the change is complete.

Using the profile settings, members can always fine tune which profile information they want to share with whom or even opt out of being listed in either the public or the member-only directory entirely. However, given that better business networking has been among the most requested benefits from members we expect the number of opt-outs to be relatively small.
